Middle school is a new stage in learning, so our rooms should be different than those in elementary. As we get older, sitting still can be harder. We want to be doing something interesting and hands on, not just normal lectures. When we do an exciting activity, the memory sticks in our minds, and we remember more information, whereas we might tend to daydream while a teacher talks and the information passes by.
In order for there to be social interaction and hands on learning, single students’ desks should be disposed of and replaced with large tables, so multiple students can be seated in one small space. This leaves room for couches or rugs–fun stuff to spruce up the room. Also, no one likes to sit in hard, plastic chairs for seven hours, which means cloth or rockable chairs should be adopted.
Plus, school can feel kind of like a prison with starch white walls. I think schools should warm up the place with reds, blues, and greens–something pleasing to the eye.
Lastly, I’m sure a lot of people would agree that some of the posters in the classrooms are kinda cheesy. Instead, maybe teachers should place up interesting pictures without words in colorful frames to make the room more modern. Of course, there are some posters that are mandatory and helpful to the class. Those are perfectly fine.
With these changes, though, school can become a more modern and fun place for everyone!
